HUMAN RIGHTS TATTOO
What do human rights and tattoos have in common? They are both with you for life.
Over 4,000 people around the world have had a letter of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights tattooed on them, to share their story and demonstrate their dedication to human rights. Human Rights Tattoo came to the UK, and to Manchester for the first time in 2023.
ABOUT THE EVENT
30 Articles, 6,773 letters. 1 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
For over a decade, Artist Sander Van Bussel has been tattooing the 6773 letters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in over 77 countries.
Every person and tattoo is documented on their website, creating an online community. Currently you are able to read 23 out of 30 Articles of Human Rights.
We were proud to partner with CONTACT, Human Rights Tattoo and Art With Heart for the one-off event.
At the event we presented the first public display of the 30 Illustrated Articles of Human Rights project in collaboration with Artist, Emma Evans.
During the event we spoke to participants, artists and activists about their reason for getting their human rights tattoo.
“I FELT I NEEDED TO USE MY IDEAS AND TALENT IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY, TO USE ART AS A SPARK FOR SOCIAL CHANGE"
